Political and Values-Based Estrangement
Feeling estranged from family or friends because of political differences or deeply held values can be heartbreaking. Many people find themselves wondering how relationships that once felt safe now feel tense, judgmental, or outright hostile. For some, this estrangement comes with grief and confusion; for others, it brings relief mixed with guilt.
Values-based and political estrangement often highlights how much our core beliefs shape connection. It can feel like you’re speaking two different languages with people you once felt closest to. You might question your own perspectives, struggle with boundaries, or feel isolated in your convictions. Navigating this estrangement is about finding ways to honor your integrity while tending to the grief and complexity of relational loss or distance.
In coaching, I provide space to process these experiences, explore what boundaries feel right for you, and build tools to stay grounded in your values without losing yourself to anger, fear, or despair. Healing in this area isn’t about changing your beliefs or theirs – it’s about reclaiming your peace, clarity, and ability to flourish in alignment with who you are.
